Hexabot

Robot Management App for Lunar Pioneers

Designflows is an annual product design competition by Bending Spoons, open to designers across Europe.

The 2025 challenge: design a mobile app for managing Hexabots — autonomous robots helping people live and work in a lunar colony.

Brief released Feb 14. Deadline Feb 18. Around 30 hours of actual work.

Invited to participate by Bending Spoons.

Design Approach

The brief presented three constraints that needed real answers.

  • Spacesuit usability — The interface had to work with gloves on and a visor in the way. Large touch targets, high contrast, and minimal steps throughout.
  • Urgent by default — 65% of tasks are urgent. Task creation became a 3-step bottom sheet, built to dispatch a Hexabot in under a minute.
  • Two users, one app — Researchers and families have completely different needs. Instead of two separate interfaces, I introduced a dual-account system — switching contexts like a work and personal profile.

Final screens

Dashboard, task creation, and task detail — the three moments that define the daily experience.

Reflection

Given more time, I'd develop voice input and error-handling — two areas the brief pointed to that deserve more design attention.
